Hamilton Police 2023 Traffic Stats Report Table C Credit: HANDOUT

The Hamilton Police Service’s 2023 traffic enforcement statistics show a decrease in the number of tickets issued by HPS in 2023 compared to 2022, and the lowest number of R.I.D.E. checks conducted during the past few years.

HPS issued 32,254 traffic-related provincial offence notices in 2023, a 22.9% decrease from 2022, when 41,834 were issued.

Speeding tickets decreased in 2023, with 6,130 issued compared to 8,506 in 2022.

55,264 R.I.D.E checks were completed in 2023, less than half the total from 2021, when 130,995 were completed. HPS reported 83,595 checks for 2023.

Collisions Continue to Decrease

HPS logged 8,979 collisions in 2023, down from 9,221 in 2022. The number of personal injury collisions decreased to 1,006 from 1,247.

There were 14 fatal collisions in 2023, down from 19 in 2022. The five-year average is 16.
