The YWCA’s Transitional Housing program is facing funding shortfalls after changes to funding formulas and increased service demands.
The YWCA operates a women’s transitional housing program at their MacNab Street South site; the housing enables women to transition from emergency shelters into permanent housing.
On April 10, the YWCA presented to Council requesting a budget enhancement of $300,000 to meet demands, and to bring their funding in line with that received by other agencies.
Denise Christopherson, YWCA Chief Executive Officer, said today’s funding was a “good first step” and that work continues with the City to find more funding sources.
