In a tight budget year, on a hot day that saw families without use of public splash pads due to that tight budget, City Councillors voted to protect another one of their perks.
The Audit, Finance, and Administration Committee voted 4-2 in favour of Councillors receiving rings at taxpayers expense when their terms of office come to an end.
The City Clerk estimates the cost at $5,000 each term of Council.
Councillors Brenda Johnson and Donna Skelly both voted against retaining the perk. Councillors Collins, Ferguson, Pearson, and Vanderbeek voted to retain the perk. The vote was moved by Pearson, seconded by Collins.
Full Council will vote on Wednesday on ratification of the decision.
