Council’s Public Works Committee voted to move to public consultation on a proposal to make Kenilworth Avenue more pedestrian and community friendly, while maintaining the “functional” role of the street as link between the Kenilworth Access mountain access route and the QEW via Burlington Street.
Among the highlights of the proposal (from the staff report):

  • Reducing Kenilworth to “a basic two-lane cross-section (plus turning lanes at key locations);
  • All-day parking;
  • Curb extensions (bump outs) to improve pedestrian crossing safety, landscaping, and clearly defined parking; and
  • removing the pedestrian traffic light at Roxborough Avenue and replacing it as a new pedestrian crossing at the pipeline trail.

The staff report notes that no capital funds have yet been identified for the project.
