A disclosure for readers of The Public Record. I’m active in my neighbourhood association, the Beasley Neighbourhood Association and am involved in the BNA’s initiative to see the implementation of the City’s plan for a park on the City block bound by John, Rebecca, Catharine, and King William.
Following the Club 77 homicide on May 13, 2016, the BNA was approached by residents of the Film Work Lofts for assistance with improving their block. The BNA executive asked me to step up and meet with them.
In response, I suggested numerous strategies for the BNA to pursue. Noting that the City already has a plan to build a park where Club 77 exists, I proposed we call on the City to move forward with those plans and expropriate the block to implement the public good.
