Shylo Elmayan, the Senior Project Manager for the Hamilton Urban Indigenous Strategy, presented an update Wednesday on her work drafting the strategy to be presented to Council. She outlined statistical information showing that Hamilton’s Indigenous population is overrepresented among the homeless and unemployed, and the steps being taken by agencies to address this.
She spoke to the three phases that will be followed to create the strategy to be presented to Council in Q3 of 2018, including work with Six Nations and Brantford to coordinate strategies.
Councillors were very supportive of the work plan and the goals of reconciliation.
