Joey’s Notepad: A U.S. Local Newspaper Reports 80% Circulation Drop in 10 Years

Canadian newspapers no longer release audited circulation numbers, and who can blame them.

The daily in Worcester Massachusetts USA had to submit its updated circulation numbers to the Us Postal Service.

Kennedy notes that paper is down 80% over the past decade.

With the exception of great local newspapers, this is the trend across North America.

The difference in the United States is that many communities have quality new media start-ups which are providing better journalism and fixing the news crisis.

In Canada, various levels of government are instituting policies to stop new local journalism outlets from being founded and looking to starve off sites such as TPR.
