Hamilton City Clerk Andrea Holland is ‘resigning’ to ‘pursue new opportunities.’

An internal announcement was sent to City staff just before the end of business today. (Wednesday, August 9, 2023)

Holland’s last day at the City of Hamilton will be September 8, 2023.

The announcement follows a series of Ontario Ombudsman closed meeting violation reports, rulings from Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commission ordering the Office of the City Clerk to comply with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Privacy Act, and last year’s election fiascos that included a significant privacy breach and the declaration of a local emergency due to serious problems on election day.

Before being hired by the City of Hamilton, Holland worked for the City of Burlington.

Holland’s resignation follows the early retirement announcement by City Manager Janette Smith two weeks ago.

Mayor Andrea Horwath and City Council have started the search for a new City Manager.
