Hamiltonians will be able to walk, roll, and bike, but not drive, on King Street between Gage Avenue and John Street on Sunday, June 18, for Hamilton’s largest ‘Open Streets’ event yet.

The plan was approved by City Council in August 2022 following a public survey that found widespread support for the event.

Termed an ‘Open Streets Temporary Linear Urban Park’, the event will see “activations” at planned LRT stops, 100In1Day events along the street, and special programming by the International Village and Downtown Hamilton Business Improvement Areas.

City of Hamilton Program Coordinator Juby Lee said, “this is a pilot. So if successful, we’re hoping to organize more in the future.”

The City plans to release more details in the coming weeks.
