Hamilton’s new elections manager wants to increase voter turnout by increasing the number of polling days, having more days for advance voting, and allowing mail-in ballots.

Aine Leadbetter, Manager Elections, Print and Mail, is asking Council to pass a by-law authorizing mail-in ballots for the 2022 regular municipal election scheduled for October 24, 2022.

Leadbetter estimates adding mail-in ballots will cost approximately $125,000 for the next election.

Council’s Governance Committee will vote on the recommendation during their July 14 meeting. It will go to full Council for ratification in August.
