Hamilton City Council, as part of the provincial COVID-19 state of emergency, implemented a property tax deferral plan allowing Hamilton ratepayers a 60-day interest free extension on paying their April 30th property tax instalment.
83% of Hamilton property tax instalments were paid by April 30, Hamilton City Manager Janette Smith shared during a Hamilton Chamber of Commerce video conference session on Monday.
The City’s Finance section, in response to an email question from The Public Record, states this represents 82% of owed revenue.
The most recent figures publicly released by the City of Hamilton for 2018 recorded 10.88% of properties in arrears.
As the COVID-19 emergency is a unique circumstance, there are no past measures which can be used to estimate how many properties will pay their instalment during the 60 day extension.
