Good news for young families in Glanbrook; the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board’s proposal for a new two storey, 6291 square metre elementary school at 110 Bellagio Avenue in Glanbrook is now at Site Plan Submission in the City planning process.
The project is fully funded by the province.
City planning staff and public works engineers are reviewing the final plans for building the school. The staff review meeting is scheduled for next week, and the Board should have a clear timeline for final approvals in the coming weeks.
This will hopefully mean parents and kids will know when to expect the new school to open in the coming years.
Presently, public board elementary schools in the Upper Stoney Creek and Binbrook area are 15 percent overcapacity. The Board, in a recent letter to parents, states in addition to adding more portables to the Bellmoore Elementary School site, students will be bused to the École Élémentaire Michaëlle Jean school site where the HWDSB is installing six portables.
UPDATE – May 7, 2017

The HWDSB says they plan to open the new school for September 2018.
