Postmedia is the latest company to locate a digital development operation in Downtown Kitchener.
Postmedia’s press statement announcing the new office includes a comforting line at the end:
Postmedia’s innovation lab at the Communitech Hub in Waterloo is expected to launch in the fall. The new team will complement Postmedia’s established network of digital development teams located in Toronto and Ancaster.
This is good news for Hamilton.
The Ancaster digital development office of Postmedia is small – tucked away in a Meadowlands commercial building – but the developers working there are major contributors to grassroots efforts to maintain and grown Hamilton’s digital development economy.
Over the years, they’ve lead presentations at Software Hamilton and participated in coding events.
Hamilton Council needs to create an clear plan and strategy to benefit from the explosive growth in the digital sector in both Waterloo and Toronto. We need to make sure the infrastructure is in place to ensure the gravitational pull of economic clustering does not see Hamilton losing IT jobs.
