Express concerns about two elements of the development – the lack of setback from the eastern lot line and that the towers will shadow the future John and Rebecca park for most of the evening.
The proposal is for two tall buildings of 25 and 34 storeys, with podium ranging from 3 to 6 stories. The podium will serve to house parking, in addition to two below grade levels of parking, and ground level commercial.
Development proposals for the former Kresge site at 43 – 51 King Street East, and a proposal for 71 Rebecca Street will be considered by the Design Review Panel.
Developer commits to working with Heritage Committee to recreate ground level look of building, and interaction with historical character of Downtown Core.
A consultant’s Heritage Assessment for the Downtown Hamilton building which housed the Kresge department store is now being reviewed by City staff. Demolition permit may be issued once utilities are cut to building.
Hamilton’s Heritage Committee is going to work with the development group planning of LIUNA and Hi-Rise Group to look into incorporating parts of the front facade of the former Kresge site at 43-51 King Street East in Downtown Hamilton.
