The City of Hamilton’s Director of Bylaw and Licensing is requesting that City Council change the city’s bylaw restricting payday loan business locations to give the Director delegated authority to approve payday loan business relocations.
The existing Cash Money payday loan shop at 158 Highway 8 in Stoney Creek is seeking permission to move its storefront to another commercial space within Ward 10.
This will require Council approval.
Director Monica Ciriello is asking for delegated authority to approve future relocations.
Ciriello states that the Cash Money location at 1392 Main Street East will need to relocate because Metrolinx has expropriated the property for the planned light rail transit line.
Council will vote on the changes during the January 14 Planning Committee meeting. [Agenda item link]
The committee decision will be approved at the January 22 Council ratification meeting.

I urge every resident to write their councillor asking them to vote against this. Pay Day Loan shops are pure evil and take advantage of people in bad situations.
This needs to be voted down. We should continue with denying any relocating or new ones opening. They are a blight and feed on the most vulnerable while offering nothing in return.
I am behind on this, only at about the 11:15 mark, but wow, this is something to watch. How do they get anything accomplished?
