Hamilton’s General Manager of Public Works says the City meeting with Ministry of Labour officials on Wednesday was productive.
The meeting followed the City’s attempt to do work beside the site on Tuesday.
GM Carlyle Khan says that moving forward, the City “is going to make sure [the Ministry] knows every single thing that we do in the vicinity of the site.”
Last week, the Ministry issued a series of stop-work orders against the City.
On Tuesday, a City electrical contractor was working at an intersection of the property, prompting a Ministry visit. The work was paused.
Khan says the City is installing a pedestrian crossover light on Barton Street at Caroline Street. Tuesday’s work to install the light occurred within the right of way of traffic operations.
The City will have a general contractor in place next week.
“They’re going to take it over, and take the role of constructor,” Khan says. “They will coordinate all that and keep us informed.”
“We’re going to communicate to the public as we move forward.”
Khan says the traffic signal installation will resume once the general contractor is in place.
