Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Paul Calandra tabled the needed legislation to reverse Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s plan to remove lands from Ontario’s Greenbelt.

The Greenbelt scandal has consumed the Ontario Progressive Conservative government, with an ongoing criminal investigation into Premier Ford still open. Numerous government staffers and previous Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark resigning following scathing reports by Ontario’s Auditor General and the Ontario Integrity Commissioner (Report 1, Report 2).

Two Hamilton properties will be returned to the Greenbelt: the Book Road lands in Ancaster and a parcel of land at Barton Street and Fifty Road in Stoney Creek.

A 45-day public comment period began today. People can submit comments on the Environmental Registry of Ontario here.
