Hamilton’s online content producers are about to face more competition as Mississauga headquartered QuickBite News prepares to launch in Hamilton with “five to 10 articles per day”.
QuickBite produces online content sites insauga.com, inbrampton.com, and inhalton.com. The registration information for the domain inhamont.com is the same as those sites.
A job posting for a Hamilton editor was widely circulated in journalism networks earlier this spring.
QuickBite’s website content is a mix of summaries from press releases, restaurant reviews packaged into Top 5 lists, and upcoming events. On social media, QuickBite is a mixture of photos and news videos. The photos are evenly balanced between original photos (taken by QuickBite) and photos “reposted” from others. Their news videos are stock video images with text overlays on hot local news topics.
QuickBite’s will be able to establish themselves in a niche between traditional news coverage, and online local entertainment/lifestyle coverage. A good mix of summarized City Hall content, alongside press release summaries, combined with viral content, will give QuiteBite an audience in Hamilton.
This will cause other sites, both mainstream media and online content providers, to increase the amount of short online content they produce in response.
The question will be which of these sites end up surviving in the long term. As for Hamiltonians, they can expect to see more city lifestyle and event content in the coming months.
