Council’s Accessible Transit Review Committee failed to make quorum this morning, leaving residents who took DARTS to the meeting on the hook for their transit fare and rescheduling their pickup times due to the cancellation.
(NOTE: an earlier version of this story stated people had to wait for scheduled pickups, DARTS responded and picked up as quickly after the meeting as possible.)
Councillors on the committee, Collins, Farr, Merulla, and Whitehead, failed to reach the required three present for quorum. Collins and Whitehead were absent.
The committee was schedule to debate a plan to eliminate DARTS in favour of outsourcing accessible transit to local taxi plate holders operating under the Veterans Taxi and Blue Line banners.
As for the residents who paid DARTS to bring them to today’s meeting? They are out their DARTS fare, the City of Hamilton will not refund them the cost.
A future make-up meeting date has not been set.
